Pastel Purple Hair Tutorial (Inspired by Perrie Edwards from Little Mix!)

This is Perrie Edwards, for those of you who don't know.
So for the longest time I have was obsessing over Perrie Edwards’ purple hair and was wondering how to get it similar to hers! Well I am happy to say that after trying a countless number of products that left me with a mess of colorful yet dull hair that I didn’t want and while also avoiding bleach like it was the plague, I finally found what I was looking for! SIMPLE PERRIE HAIR!

Now I know a lot of people have the “simple answer” of bleaching your hair a few times and deep conditioning to heal it - great for you, but that wouldn’t of worked for me. I know some of you have really dark hair and I’m sure you’ll need to bleach it, and if you’re fine with that, go ahead.

However, if you really don’t want to bleach it, consider buying a few bottles (meaning however many it takes to get your hair platinum blonde - It really shouldn’t take many, though. Unless you have really long black hair - maybe bleaching is easier, and cheaper!) of L’oreal Paris Frost & Design H85 Champangne Highlights Kit pictured below. It's about $11 at your local Walmart or Fred Meyers.

It only took me two bottles to achieve the desired color. Of course I have short light brown hair, and I was only trying to get the bottom half of my hair platinum blonde. I left it in for an hour at a time (with a week of condition and healing time in between dyes - not necessary but I like taking extra precaution with my hair.) When I washed it out, I put all of the Color Toning Rinse, let it take the bronze colors out, then went straight to the pastel purple dye!
After trying a few different types of purple hair dyes (Splat was absolutely NOT what I was looking for,) my local Sally’s FINALLY got their shipment of pastels in. Color Brilliance Brights Lavender Semi-Permanent Hair Color (pictured below) worked wonders! It costs about $5 at your local Sally's or on their website, here.

One bottle of this barely made it through the bottom half of my hair (a couple inches under my collar bone in length.  People with longer and thicker hair will definitely need to consider how many bottles to purchase, make sure you get the opinion of your hair dresser!) The dye is a bit thick, so put a small amount of WHITE conditioner (brand doesn’t matter, I used Suave because I am cheap and it smells good,) into your purple dye mix that way it is easier to apply. I applied various amounts on different strands of hair - leaving some of them a lighter or darker purple. . (Make sure you apply it how you’d like it to turn out.) I left that in for about an hour then washed it out. I was so pleased with how it turned out! I got the same silvery tint that Perrie has in the above photo - which is exactly what I wanted!

Here’s where a fun upkeep tip comes around! Get your bottle of white conditioner and put a bit of your purple dye in it, shake it up and use that every time you condition your hair for upkeep. Leave it in for 5-10 minutes - or however long you can be bothered - before you rinse it out. It will keep a nice purple tint in your hair so showering doesn’t run the color too much. (Keep in mind that it will wash out and fade eventually, the proper upkeep just gives you a bit of extra time with your lavender locks.)

Here were my results! (Don’t mind my roots, I was not at all trying to cover them. I wanted to keep my hair sort of ombre purple as it grew out.)

My finished product - I loved it!
.
The top part of my hair is my natural color - just to help anyone decipher how many bottles they may need of Frost hair dye.

This only lasted me a couple washes. (I quickly got out of the colored hair phase so I wasn't bothered with upkeep.)

Obviously it will get a bit pricey keeping your hair this color but it really does look amazing!
Hope you guys liked this tutorial! Let me know how it works for you! :)
